Remembering and Sharing....

Remembering & Sharing

After seeing the little goats of our great granddaughters Sarah, Courtney & Ashley on Facebook...it set my mind to "Meandering" back to the 1940's and ....
Once upon a time there was a little Dairy Farm girl named Mary Jane...and in my heart at times I am still there, with the milk cows, calves, horses, pigs, chickens, dog and a wonderful big vegetable garden and flower garden,  and many fields, corn mostly, etc.

I remember our beautiful collie/shepherd mix dog.. looked collie, tho he had a shorter nose. Isn't it funny that after all these years I can see him in my minds eye, but not remember his name at the moment.
I do remember too, that after my mom died (at 31 in 1946) and we moved to Hammond, In. that fall, the dog was given to "Grandpa & Grandma" Drake. Not really my grandparents but out of respect... they were called that. They were my Uncle Jim's parents. They lived in Grovertown..
The dog died there some years later, chasing a big boar who crushed him against a barn wall...

I remember Mom teasing me, when I asked where I was born, she said she found me under a toadstool. lol I remember so many silly things but can't hear her voice.
I remember riding our Pinto horse (and that is what he was called too) out to the fields to take water to my dad in the hot weather. I remember one of our team of horses used for doing the plows etc.. getting stuck in mire and dying of a broken neck as they tried to pull him out...

I remember sitting around the wood burning stove with the radio on listening to all the great old programs... "Fibber McGee & Molly"... "Inner Sanctum" "The Lone Ranger" "the Jack Benny show" and so many others... you really had to use your imagination and the sound effects and music were so spectacular on the radio... NO TV back then.. haha

I remember the country school houses when we lived in North Judson and in Rochester In. I still have some of my report cards from them. Aging and yellowing, but I still have signatures on them. I remember the old "Party Line" telephone system and the operator, AND our number in Rochester was 1222 J of all things! I've never forgotten.
I remember my brother Wayne climbing up some stairs on the outside of the silo. The stairs had a metal rounded cover over them and all of a sudden it was clammoring like thunder!! I yelled that it was falling off. BUT, Wayne had slipped and was falling & banging his way down... and fell in front of me.. I was sure he was dead!!  It knocked the breath out of him and was I so happy when he gasped for air.
I remember a time back on the farm when my cousin Marsha and I went out to play.. we thought we would *help* my dad and feed some of the calves. Nice huh? NOT!! when we went in the house covered with white stuff our parents went spastic! We had gotten in to poison, fed and killed a couple of calves. Once they found we had not injested some of it... wow were we in trouble!!
I remember some of 4-H, Head Heart Health Hands and was in the Girl Scouts for a little while when we moved up here..."On my honor I will do my duty to God & my country."  Then I found Roller Skating and fell in love with that! As Dad used to say I "practically lived at the Palace Roller Rink!" My bestest ever friend Bonnie & I lived there, yes we did!  I have a lot memories stored up..some shared..and others not... might have to jog the old computer to bring them up. haha
Ahhh memories... they are the spice and continuity of life are they not... we are the sum of our experiences and families. Still not sure if it is, more Genes OR Nurture.. I have my idea's.. but unless you ask...I'll not say.
Write down YOUR Memories OR experiences.. Cause even if you ask and someone tells you... Memories fade.. ink does not. I asked my dad many times about my mom & our lives, and he said he couldn't remember... but lied. I think even after all the years my mom was gone it hurt to remember. Then one bright sunny day he took me on a ride in my grown up years. To all the places he knew I would want to see or know about.. I was in shock and have no idea now where this or that was.. some I do.. but had he told me what we were going to do, I "might" have gotten paper. Then I said we can do this again/ I can get him to tell me again, and Poof! he had a heart attack, developed blood clots and was GONE!
Like I said... write it down for your posterity...they may appreciate it.   Why this changed type I have NO clue... but who cares??   Till next time...
